Student honors accumulate during fall semester by Dabney Weems Despite their difficult course loads, University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy students have managed to earn top honors and recognition at the university and national levels. Fourteen pharmacy students were inducted into Phi Kappa Phi national honor society, and the UM team placed in the top 10 in the Clinical Skills Competition (CSC) during the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists mid-year meeting in Las Vegas. “The School of Pharmacy is very proud of the academic achievements of all of our students,” said Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Marvin C. Wilson. “The faculty is truly blessed to have such academically gifted students who demonstrate a thirst for knowledge to benefit their future patients.” Phi Kappa Phi is the university’s highest academic honor society for scholarship in all disciplines. Students are invited to join based on their superior scholarship, supported by good character. The students are Brett Barnes of Madison, Miss., Amber Nicole Davis of Wesson, Miss., Lauren Freeman of Senatobia, Miss., Dure Fritschle of Cari, Ill., Kelli Herrington of Brookhaven, Miss., Lindsay Michelle Hieser of Long Beach, Miss., Andrea Lauren Hodge of Pontotoc, Miss., Anna Hood of Eupora, Miss., Laura Carolyn Luther of Hattiesburg, Miss., Ann-Katelyn McClellan of Leland, Miss., Tyler W. McMillan of Newton, Miss., Fair Pender of Grenada, Miss., John Michael Segars of Saltillo, Miss., and Karen Anne Wilson of Gulfport, Miss. During the CSC, students demonstrate their skills by assessing patient information and current therapy, identifying and prioritizing drug-therapy problems, identifying treatment goals, and recommending a pharmacist’s care plan. The UM team of Travis King of Lexington, Miss., and Wes Pierce of Madison, Ala., competed against a record 102 pharmacy schools from around the nation.   Back
